Option 1: One-Day Land Safari – Tsavo East National Park Overview: Departure: Early morning from Watamu (around 4:30–5:00 AM) Destination: Tsavo East National Park (approx. 2.5–3 hours drive) Return: Evening (around 6:00–7:00 PM) What to Expect: Early Morning Drive through scenic countryside en route to Tsavo East. Game Drive: Upon arrival, embark on a morning game drive. You’ll have a chance to spot: Elephants, often covered in red dust Lions, giraffes, zebras, and if you're lucky, leopards and cheetahs Birdlife including hornbills, eagles, and ostriches Lunch Stop at a lodge or picnic site inside the park. Afternoon Game Drive before heading back to Watamu. What’s Included (with a tour operator): Transport in a 4x4 safari vehicle or minibus Park entry fees Professional guide Lunch and water Option 2: One-Day Marine Safari – Watamu Marine National Park (Safari Blue) Overview: Departure: Around 8:30–9:00 AM from Watamu beach Return: Around 3:00–4:00 PM What to Expect: Dhow or glass-bottom boat ride into the marine park Snorkeling over coral reefs filled with tropical fish Chance to spot green sea turtles, dolphins, and even whale sharks (in season) Island stopovers for swimming or sunbathing Seafood BBQ lunch served on a sandbank or small island (usually included) 🧴 Don’t Forget: Swimsuit, towel, reef-safe sunscreen, hat, underwater camera Bonus Add-On: Visit the Gede Ruins If you’re not doing a full-day safari or want something shorter, you can combine a half-day marine safari with a cultural visit to the Gede Ruins—an ancient Swahili settlement nestled in the forest just 10 minutes from Watamu.
