The reserve is located in the northern part of Kenya, along the Ewaso Ng'iro River, in the Samburu County. It is famous for its unique wildlife species, including the "Samburu Five"—the Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, gerenuk, and Somali ostrich, which are not commonly found in other parts of Kenya. Samburu is renowned for its arid yet beautiful landscapes, which include vast savannahs, riverine forests, and rocky outcrops, offering a distinctive experience compared to other Kenyan parks. The area is also culturally significant, home to the Samburu people, a semi-nomadic community that plays an integral role in the region's way of life.
